Yahoo! recently announced its decision to discontinue several mobile applications for the iPad, iPhone, Android and Blackberry devices. This was done in response to the fast-pace, ever changing nature of the mobile market.
The full list of discontinued applications consists of
- Yahoo! Finance (BlackBerry)
- Yahoo! News (Android)
- Yahoo! Movies (Android)
- Yahoo! Answers (Android)
- Yahoo! AppSpot (Android and iPhone)
- Yahoo! Deals (iPhone)
- Yahoo! Shopping (iPhone)
- Yahoo! Meme (iPad and iPhone)
- Yahoo! Sketch-a-Search (iPad and iPhone)
- Yahoo! Mim (iPad)
“Our plan is to keep moving, to keep innovating, and to continuously measure and scrutinize what’s working and what isn’t – so we can make room for great new products.” said Yahoo! in a blog post titled ‘The Times Are a Changing…and These Apps are A-Going’.
This is far from the end of Yahoo!’s mobile applications as the company stated that this year it will move forward with a “mobile first” mindset. The company plans on building on its strengths which includes support for its most popular mobile applications like Yahoo! Mail, Messenger, Flickr and Sportacular as well as new applications like IntoNow and Livestand. The Yahoo! Search application will also include integrated features of Sketch-a-Search and AppSpot.
Changes are afoot in the Yahoo! headquarters as the online giant appointed Scott Thompson as CEO earlier this month.
